We are starting notes on Rome today.  The students will be learning about the founding of Rome and the geography of the surrounding area.

I like to start each unit with the geography of the region.  With Rome expanding and becoming such a large Empire I think that today we are going to focus on the Italian Peninsula.  The students will work in groups to make a map of Italy that is due at the end of the hour.

Rome!  We are starting a new unit today.  The students are going to read a passage about Roman students and the schools that they went to.  We are also going to go over the test that they took on Thursday.  Pages 466-467.


Homework:  Write a letter to a relative pretending you are a Roman student.  Describe what you did today.

Most students are going on a field trip to the bowling alley.  Those not able to attend will be with me.  They will get the opportunity to make up missing or poorly done assignments.

Basketball review today.  This is the favorite pre-test activity.  Students are divided into teams that compete against each other and the winners get extra credit on the test.

Since we finished our notes on Greece yesterday we need to start getting ready for the test.  Today we are going to review the notes on Greece and then tomorrow we are going to play a game.

I hope that everyone had a great and relaxing weekend.  We are going to hit the ground running.  Notes are going to be finished up today.  We are going to talk about the Art and Science of the Hellenistic Age.

Thursday:  We are learning how to read a map with time zones on it today.  This is a useful skill and really helps up here where so many of us have relatives "outside."

Friday:  I will be in Anchorage for a wedding so we will have a sub.  We are going to watch a movie on Greece and if that finishes early there will be an extra credit opportunity.
